![]() ![]() I have had this book forever, but decided to finally pick it up because I recently read Heist Society by Ally Carter, and I’ve also been on a bit of the spy books kick lately. With the school’s top-secret status at risk, the Gallagher Girls have to work quickly to save their beloved school. Worse yet, teenage agent-in-training Cammie is being blamed for the penetration. Soon after the boys’ arrival, though, everything goes dangerously awry when a series of security breaches are discovered at the academy. Gallagher Academy, Cammie’s elite spy school, is hosting a visit from a covert training center for boys. At first, giddy anticipation is in the air. ![]() Summary: Cammie Morgan is back, and it’s clear that her life hasn’t calmed down since the events of I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You. ![]() ![]() ![]() A writer creates characters, an actor portrays them, dialogue between them, whether spoken or written, moves the story along. I just couldn’t see how their relationship turned into a romantic one when really, they seemed more so as friends than anything else, which can be a bummer to some people. Not that this book needed more insight into their relationship, but it would’ve been nice to get some cute romantic development in there, which only had a few moments. He was there to help Annabelle develop into who she wanted to be and that’s pretty much it. However, this book is about Annabelle only, meaning you shouldn’t read or listen to this if you want a fulfilling love story full of cute moments between the main character and the love interest Owen, which was essentially non-existent. The story itself is meaningful as you follow Annabelle into becoming the type of person she wants to be, instead of who she is at the beginning of the book. ![]() ![]() Read this as teenager when I was younger and it brings back all the memories I had experienced during my first time reading it. ![]() ![]() Born into a Jewish middle-class family, his education took him to Berlin, Munich and Bern before he returning back to Berlin in his late twenties. Though relatively unknown in his own lifetime, his writing had a profound impact on subsequent aesthetic theory, cultural and literary criticism, artistic practice, and the emergence of various postmodern art movements. His essay "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" (1936) was an incisive analysis of the social importance of photography, while his Arcades Project (1927-40) helped set the foundations of what became known as critical and cultural theory. He was associated with a group of German intellectuals and philosophers who were known collectively as the Frankfurt School though he did not always share their radical political views on the nature of modern society. ![]() ![]() But he is perhaps still best known for his ideas on art and authenticity challenging, as he did, the assumption that the original artwork was more valuable to society than the photographic reproduction of that artwork. Walter Benjamin was one of the most important thinkers of the 20 th century, having published a range of works on culture and society. ![]() ![]() An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is a scathing indictment of our current political culture disguised as an alien invasion novel. I like John Green’s books, though, and I admit that I picked up Hank Green’s new novel because he is John’s brother, and I thought at the very least that An Absolutely Remarkable Thing would be a likable, sweet, funny coming-of-age romance that would temporarily lift my book funk. I know nothing about them other than they are from Indiana (I think). I don’t follow it, nor do I follow the life of John Green outside of the pages of his novels.
